Program details

The Novodevichy Convent is one of the most beautiful and famous architectural and historical monuments in Moscow. The holy monastery, which was built in 1524 at the junction of the city's roads, had survived a lot: the medieval riots, a terrible fire and the invasion of Napoleon's troops, revolution and wars. But, despite the hard trials, the beautiful monastery has survived to this day almost unchanged. Due to its amazing preservation and beauty, the architectural ensemble was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. You will see: the unique architectural ensemble of the Novodevichy Convent; the famous Sofya Tower and the picturesque Novodevichy Pond; the temple of the Beheading of John the Baptist, restored with amazing historical accuracy 200 years after the destruction.

Continuing your visit, you will visit the famous Novodevichye Cemetery, which is the most prestigious necropolis throughout Russia. Writers Gogol and Chekhov, directors Stanislavsky and Vakhtangov, composers Shostakovich and Prokofiev found their last refuge here. Here are buried President Yeltsin and General Secretary of the Communist Party Khrushchev.

A two-hour walk in the company of an experienced guide is a fascinating and informative journey into the historical past of the holy monastery, five centuries long. Do not miss the opportunity to get vivid impressions of exploring the russian capital and replenish your knowledge with useful facts.
