The Tretyakov Gallery was founded in 1856. The basis for its creation was a collection of famous merchant brothers - Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov. And the collection itself, which has become the lifelong work of its owners and the national pride of Russia, began with the accidental purchase of only two paintings. Today the Tretyakov Gallery is a museum of fine arts of world importance and is highly valued among true connoisseurs of art. The collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery currently consists of more than 180,000 works of art. This includes painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative art, icons. Of the most famous masters, whose canvases are presented in the gallery's collection, it is necessary to note the icon painter Andrei Rublev and outstanding Russian artists: Vasnetsov, Shishkin, Savrasov, Repin, Surikov, Vrubel, Roerich, Levitan and many others.
