Program details

An excursion to Gatchina is a good opportunity to see something unusual, unlike other ceremonial satellite cities of St. Petersburg. The Gatchina Palace is not just a palace, but a real castle. You will learn about the sights on the route, and the guide will acquaint you with the fate of Gatchina as a city, with the history of the palace and park ensemble, which served as the imperial residence since 1783. The Gatchina Palace was originally erected in the 18th century as a suburban entertainment and hunting castle for Count Grigory Orlov, a favorite of Catherine II. From 1783 until the October Revolution in 1917, the Gatchina Palace was the property of the Imperial family. The best architects and artists created and decorated the ceremonial halls and private chambers here for several generations of Russian tsars. The palace was badly damaged during the Great World War, but the best Russian restorers were able to restore the state rooms of the era of Paul I. You will see the imperial chambers, the Throne room, the Marble dining room, the Greek gallery, the Marble staircase and other historical interiors in their former beauty and grandeur. At the end of the excursion you will visit the "highlight" of the castle - the underground passage. The palace is surrounded by a romantic landscape park, most of which is occupied by water. It is cozy, beautiful and extremely picturesque! The guide will acquaint you with the park sculptures and pavilions, lead you across the picturesque bridge, where you get beautiful photos.
